Retiring doesn't mean you're old
Research, by AXA, has found that the difference between the average age when retirees stop working, and the age at which they consider themselves ‘old’ is 18 years.
This highlights that those still in work can expect to enjoy almost two decades of feeling young when they finish working.
In the survey, UK workers thought they would retire at the age of 62, and considered 72 ‘old’. However, surveyed retirees tended to finish work at age 60, but considered 78 ‘old’.
The research also showed that many British retirees enjoy retirement,
with 40 per cent saying they are ‘very happy’. Eighty per
cent had positive associations with retirement, putting retired Britons
ahead of their counterparts in a number of countries including USA (55
per cent), Italy (39 per cent) and Portugal (36 per cent).
This peace of mind comes with careful forward planning. Although most
retirees say that their retirement income is sufficient, retirement can
be costly, so it’s important to plan ahead to make those years happy
ones.
