Regrets, we’ve had a few

Forty per cent of pensioners regret not having saved more for their retirement, according to a new survey.

The statistic, which highlights the importance of planning ahead, was part of a poll which quizzed 1,500 Britons aged over 65 about the things they would change about their lives so far.

However, financial considerations were by no means the only area lamented by British pensioners in the poll commissioned by television channel UKTV Gold.

Given the chance to live their lives over again, nearly three quarters said they would like to have more sex, while over half would travel more, nearly half would change their jobs more often, and over a fifth would marry someone else.

The top 10 things on British pensioners’ wish lists were to:

  • Have more sex (70%)
  • Travel more (57%)
  • Change jobs more often (45%)
  • Save more (40%)
  • Stand up to their boss (33%)
  • Marry someone else (21%)
  • Spend "frivolously" (19%)
  • Set up their own business (16%)
  • Study harder (12%)
  • Be famous (7%)
